Duke University, Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical Engineering Research Scientist
The Chilkoti Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Duke University, is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Research Scientist to join the diagnostics/biointerface science team. Our laboratory integrates techniques from surface chemistry, inkjet printing, 3D printing, nanofabrication, biomedical optics, and molecular biology to create innovative point-of-care diagnostic technologies, particularly for resource-limited settings (see our recent publication: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7737629/). The candidate will focus on developing a point-of-care immunoassay integrated with plasmonic nanostructures for enhanced assay sensitivity.
As a member of this research group, you will be expected to:
- Work as part of a team to develop new and innovative fabrication strategies for the next generation of point-of-care diagnostic technologies.
- Perform complex laboratory experiments, obtain data sets from your research, and present the experimental results concisely to the team.
- Write manuscripts for publication in academic journals, grant applications, and patents.
- Experience in wet lab techniques and handling biological samples.
- Hands-on experience designing and optimizing diagnostic assays.
- Knowledge of plasmonic effects and their application in enhancing signal detection.
- Experience with nanoparticle characterization methods (e.g., UV-Vis, SEM, AFM, etc.) is a plus.
- A history of high-level academic writing in the form of drafting and publication of manuscript and drafting and submission of grant applications.
Interested applicants should submit a CV that also includes at least 2 references with contact information.
