Area Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist: Department of Mental Health, Northeast Massachusetts Area

The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) seeks an experienced board- certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to serve as the Department of Mental Health (DMH) Area Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for the DMH Northeast Massachusetts Area. This is a .50 FTE part-time position. The selected candidate will be recommended for a UMass Chan faculty appointment as Assistant Professor based on qualifications.

The primary responsibilities are to support the delivery of clinically effective and high-quality behavioral healthcare to youth and families served by DMH. More specific responsibilities include conducting mental health evaluations, clinical case consultations, assessments to determine level of care and for treatment planning, program development and quality improvement consultation. The area child and adolescent psychiatrist provides leadership and is responsible, as part of a team, for following clinically complex youth through periods of crisis or treatment dilemmas by providing ongoing assessment, consultation, and guidance to the DMH Child Youth and Family team, providers, and families. In addition, there will be opportunities to provide clinical consultation to other EOHHS agencies, DMH vendors and to inpatient facilities. These responsibilities include in-state travel.

As a clinical leader for the state’s mental health authority, we are looking for a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who is familiar with state agencies, has expertise in systems consultation, and is skilled in clinical collaboration and teaching. A UMass Chan academic faculty appointment will be based on prior experience. There are opportunities for research, including protected time depending on experience and goals.

Successful candidates must be a licensed Massachusetts physician with board certification in Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Preferred qualifications would include facility in teaching professionals, lay public, consumers, as well as trainees such as medical students and residents.
