Pitzer College, Claremont CA invites applications for the position of full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Sociology and Secular Studies for the 2025-26 academic year. The teaching load is five courses: three required core Sociology classes (such as Intro, Theory, or Qualitative Methods) plus two electives in Secular Studies, such as classes on secularism, humanism, secularization, atheism, and so forth. Preference will be given to candidates with successful teaching experience and whose teaching foci complement the sociology curricula at the Claremont Colleges. Ph.D. preferred; ABD considered.

A complete application will include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, selected evidence of excellence in teaching and research, statement of teaching philosophy, a research statement, and three letters of recommendation. Candidates should also submit a statement in which they address how their cultural, experiential, and/or academic background contributes to the understanding of diversity at the College.

Review of applications will begin Sept. 15 and will continue until the position is filled. The salary for this position will range from $68,000 - $72,000.
