Position Description:

The Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (http://tdli.sjtu.edu.cn) invites applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty (“Fellow”) positions in the area of experimental neutrino physics. We are seeking candidates with an emphasis in high-energy cosmic neutrino detection and neutrino astronomy. Successful candidate is expected to play a major role in developing the TRIDENT (https://trident.sjtu.edu.cn/en), an envisioned next-generation neutrino telescope at South China Sea. TRIDENT aims to swiftly identify various high energy comic neutrino sources to study their astrophysical origins and fundamental physics. TRIDENT features fast photosensors and advanced waveform readout electronics housed within strings of hybrid digital optical modules (hDOM) to notably enhance angular resolution for high-energy neutrinos and the detection sensitivity across all neutrino flavors. TRIDENT's development will follow a phased approach, starting with a 10-string TRIDENT-I set to be operational by 2026. The complete TRIDENT array will consist of approximately 1000 strings, monitoring a water volume of about 7.5 km^3, opening up exciting new opportunities for high energy cosmic neutrino physics.

TDLI, established in 2016, is a national research institute conducting research in particle physics, astrophysics and quantum physics. Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is the contractor and trustee of TDLI, and is in charge of the operation of TDLI. TDLI has an active visitor program, and organizes many topical workshops and conferences each year to create a scientifically stimulating environment. About 40% of the researchers are international, and English is the working language of the institute.

TDLI particle physics division works closely with the Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics (INPAC, https://inpac.physics.sjtu.edu.cn/en/) at SJTU. The TDLI particle physics division also works closely with astrophysics division, particularly in the area of particle astrophysics and cosmology.

Fellows at all levels at TDLI are expected to carry out independent forefront research and supervise students (both Ph.D. and undergraduate students). They will be jointly appointed at the School of Physics and Astronomy (https://www.physics.sjtu.edu.cn/en/) for teaching duties, but with a reduced load. The positions come with comprehensive university offer packages for faculty, including a highly competitive salary, start-up grant, generous housing subsidies, medical insurance and retirement benefits.

Applicants should submit their applications at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28236. They should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including a publication list), a research and teaching statement (four-page maximum). At least five reference letters should be submitted online at the same website. For other inquires please send an email to donglianxu@sjtu.edu.cn.

For full consideration, all application material should be received before Dec. 20, 2024. The search will remain open until the positions are filled.
