Position Description
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral researcher position in formal high-energy theory at the Mandelstam Institute for Theoretical Physics (MITP) at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This is a two year position.
Applicants should have obtained a Ph.D. within the last five years and have shown evidence of accomplishment and independence in their research.
Members of the MITP include Pallab Basu, Kevin Goldstein, Vishnu Jejjala, Anosh Joseph, Isobel Kolbé, João Rodrigues, Izak Snyman, and Sam van Leuven. The MITP currently has five post-docs in formal theory.
Members of the MITP work on various topics in string theory, quantum field theory, theoretical cosmology, nuclear theory, condensed matter, mathematical physics, and applications of machine learning. Theorists who overlap with any of these areas are encouraged to apply. The appointment is subject to approval by the appropriate funding agencies. We can apply for additional funding to extend the term of the fellowship, but this is not guaranteed. A post-doc can expect a reasonable stipend for research related travel.
