Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Directed by Antoine Georges and co-directed by Andrew Millis, theCenter for Computational Quantum Physics (CCQ), located in New York city, is a leading international center for the study of equilibrium and non-equilibrium many-body quantum systems, with applications to condensed matter physics, materials science, chemistry and related fields. The development of the concepts, algorithms and code libraries needed to advance the field is fundamental to the work of the center. Research projects currently pursued at CCQ cover a broad range of methods and interest.

CCQ currently comprises more than 45 research and software scientistsatcareer stages from recent Ph.D.s through senior scientists, as well as support staff, visiting scientists, and affiliated graduate students and interns.CCQ has vigorous visitor and workshop programs, strong interactions with scientists from neighboring institutions and is engaged in several national and international partnerships.

The CCQ seeks an associate research scientist-software with a background in computational physics/chemistry methods and software development. This full-time position offers opportunity at the interface of science and computing, with flexibility to be immersed in frontier scientific research while focusing on computing, algorithms, and technical support. This position is based at theFlatiron Institute, Simons Foundationin New York City.

Associate Research Scientists-Software are typically appointed for an initial three-year period; the appointment may be renewed for up to another three years. Associate Research Scientists-Software may be reviewed for promotion to a non term-limited position as a Research Scientist or Research Scientist-Software.

The occupant of this position will report to a senior research scientist at CCQ and will be responsible for developing, extending and maintaining the CCQ software suite devoted to electronic structure computations using many-body methods, as well as assisting with the development and maintenance of other software suites as needed.. The position also supports the associated scientific community by creating documentation, responding to user questions, and addressing bug reports. This position may be expected to: provide training through mentoring junior scientists; giving lectures and tutorials at the Flatiron Institute; and external activities such as summer schools.

The scientific output of this position also includes publications produced in collaboration with scientists at the Flatiron Institute and elsewhere. Interactions with staff across the Flatiron Institute including domain scientists, data scientists, and the scientific computing core provide unparalleled opportunities for professional development.
