Position Description

Duke University Department of Biology Assistant Research Professor in Ecology or Evolutionary Biology Position: The Department of Biology at Duke University invites applications for an Ecologist or Evolutionary Biologist for a three-year, non-renewable, non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor (ARP) position. This is a teaching-focused position. The ARP will contribute to the department’s mission by teaching or co-teaching two courses each semester and will be assigned a mentoring committee of senior faculty members. This position includes a modest discretionary account in each year to support professional development or independent research. Consideration will be given to applicants who are qualified to teach our introductory courses in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Only candidates who have completed their Ph.D. at least one full month before the start date of January 1, 2024 can be considered.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a one-page teaching statement (including courses previously taught and planned and any professional development focused on teaching), a one-page statement describing their approach to equitable and inclusive teaching and mentoring, and the names of three professional references.

Though not required, candidates may optionally provide a one-page research statement that describes possible collaborations with Duke Biology faculty or ideas for supporting undergraduate student research.
