Position Description:
   

An exciting postdoctoral position is available in the exciting field of mathematics of deep learning, under the joint supervision of Prof. Alex Cloninger and Prof. Gal Mishne at UC San Diego. This NSF-funded research focuses on a geometric understanding of training in deep neural networks. The position offers excellent training opportunities at the intersection of machine learning and applied mathematics.

Qualifications: - Applicants should have (or expected to get in a near future) a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, or other related fields. - Strong quantitative and programming skills are essential, along with a track record of published papers and strong self-motivation. - Prior experience in the areas of machine learning / data-driven methods, signal processing and/or applied mathematics.

The position is for one year with renewal for a second year pending satisfactory progress.

The postdoc will work closely with both the Department of Mathematics and the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute. HDSI is an academic unit at UC San Diego with a focused mission - to lay the groundwork for the scientific foundations of this emerging discipline, develop new methods and infrastructure, and train students, faculty and industrial partners to use data science in ways that will allow them to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems.
