Position Description

Job Description: The S. Matinyan Center for Theoretical Physics, Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (Yerevan Physics Institute) in Yerevan, Armenia, invites applications for postdoctoral scholars.

Position 1: The successful candidate will be based in Yerevan and expected to work with Tigran Sedrakyan (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) within the scope of the newly established remote program in theoretical quantum matter and quantum information physics. Collaborations with local faculty at the Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory in that area will be encouraged. Topics of interest cover a wide range of areas, including strongly correlated systems, topological states of matter, spin liquids, quantum chaos, nonequilibrium quantum physics, quantum phase transitions and critical phenomena in and away from equilibrium, topological quantum computing, quantum entanglement and nonlocality, quantum error correction and fault tolerance, quantum algorithms and complexity, and related topics. The appointments are expected to be for two years (subject to satisfactory performance during the first year) starting in Fall 2025 and include a competitive monthly salary of 550000 AMD (~$1400) and a comprehensive benefits package including family allowance (additional 150000 AMD/month) and travel funding.

Position 2: The successful candidate will be based in Yerevan and expected to work with Ara Sedrakyan (Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory). Topics of interest include the physics of the quantum Hall effect, topological insulators and symmetry-protected topological phases, network models, and disordered systems. The appointments are expected to be for two years (subject to satisfactory performance during the first year) starting in Fall 2025 and include a competitive monthly salary of 550000 AMD (~$1400) and a comprehensive benefits package including family allowance (additional 150000 AMD/month) and travel funding.

Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in theoretical physics or a closely related field by the time of the appointment. Preferred qualifications include experience in at least one or more of the topics above in theoretical physics.
