The School of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track faculty position at Cornell Tech, a research and graduate education campus of Cornell University located on Roosevelt Island in New York City.

We welcome exceptional applicants in all research areas and at all levels of seniority. We are particularly interested in candidates with a broad interest in data-driven decisions, especially optimization and machine learning, both in theory and practice, and including AI-based applications. In keeping with the mission of Cornell Tech, applicants must also have a strong interest in activities that reach beyond academia for external engagement and impact, in areas that may include technology commercialization and entrepreneurship, or activities with non-profit organizations, government and policy issues, international programs, or pre-college (K-12) education. Applicants for senior positions should have a demonstrated track record of such external engagement.

Cornell ORIE is a diverse group of high-quality researchers and educators interested in probability, optimization, statistics, machine learning, simulation, game theory, and a wide array of applications such as health care, e-commerce, supply chains, scheduling, manufacturing, transportation systems, financial engineering, service systems and network science. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. A complete application should include a cover letter, CV, and three brief statements (1-2 pages per statement): (1) a research statement, (2) a teaching statement, and (3) a statement of contributions to diversity. Within a clearly identified subsection of the research statement, the candidate should address prior accomplishments and future plans related to the commercial and/or broader public engagement and societal impact dimensions of their research. Candidates are encouraged to review Cornell University’s guidance for writing diversity statements as well as their evaluation considerations. We ask applicants for all faculty positions to share their experiences and/or approaches (past, current, or future) to fostering learning, research service, and/or outreach in a diverse community. Applicants may choose to submit a stand-alone statement or embed the information in other parts of their application materials. In addition to these statements, candidates should include a copy of their most significant research publications, a list of the full contact information for three references, and, for junior applicants, a doctoral transcript.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
