Position Title: Associate in Research – Gladfelter Lab

Subject Area: Computational Biology

Position Description:

Exempt/salaried Associate in Research position in the Gladfelter labs in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Cell Biology at Duke University. The Associate in Research will develop and apply machine learning and bioinformatic approaches to analyze genomes of fungi to uncover temperature responsive sequence motifs in protein and mRNAs. This position is part of a research team, and training and mentoring will be provided, including close collaboration with the Holehouse lab (Washington University in St. Louis). A B.S./B.A is required, in Computer science or a related field. While not strictly essential, a background/interest in molecular biology is advantageous. Strong quantitative skills, experience in programming with Python and the associated scientific ecosystem (Numpy/SciPy/SciPy/PyTorch, etc.), experience with software development best practices (git, continuous integration testing, robust documentation, etc.), commitment to open-source software development, and experience working with large datasets are all advantageous. Ideal candidates should be well-organized and self-motivated. This position is well-suited for a candidate with a background in computer science who is interested in applying to graduate school for computational biology programs.
