Position Description
POSITION Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Duke I&E) invites applications for a part-time Lecturing Fellow position (non-regular rank) to teach The Business of Science: Research and Technology Translation course as part of the Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Duke I&E) certificate program. The course covers the processes, factors, and strategic decisions involved in bringing a technology from the lab or research center to market – often described as 'technology commercialization' or 'technology translation.' The course examines how technologies are conceived and evaluated, the conditions enabling commercialization of the technology, factors to consider for a go-to-market strategy, and how markets, customers, and funding drive strategic choices in the path towards technology commercialization. Covered topics also include intellectual property, regulatory considerations, financing structures, factors in licensing/startup decisions, and assessing market needs and competitive landscape. REQUIREMENTS Candidate must have practical experience in research and technology translation with a preference for those with a complementary advanced degree, e.g. MBA. Candidate must have a demonstrated track record of excellent classroom instruction skills in innovation, entrepreneurship and translation. Additionally, an enthusiasm for working in a highly entrepreneurial setting and a desire to contribute to advancing the Duke I&E mission are desired. RESPONSIBILITES Instruct one section of The Business of Science course, which is part of the Duke I&E Graduate Certificate. The course meets in person, once per week for the Spring 2025 semester from January 8 – May 3, 2025. The course is scheduled to meet weekly on Wednesday from 3:05PM – 5:35PM from January 8 – April 16, 2025.
