The Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Rice University in Houston,
TX, is seeking applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. We encourage
applicants from across the field of Environmental Earth Science, including but not limited to
those studying coastal and surface processes, ocean sciences, the cryosphere, and interactions
among those systems and their connections to climate change. We also welcome candidates
pursuing research on environmental aspects of the energy transition. We encourage applicants
utilizing a range of research methods to apply, with a preference for those employing field,
observational or computational methods in their research.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program,
teach core courses and develop undergraduate and graduate courses within their area of
expertise, and be involved in service to the department, university, and the broader scientific
community. Rice hosts a number of growing initiatives focused on environmental and energy
research, with particular attention to the Texas Gulf Coast and the Houston area, and invites
engagement with the newly established Rice Sustainability Institute. We particularly welcome

Requirements:
All candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Earth, Environmental, or Planetary Science or
a related field by the time of the appointment. Applicants must submit the following: (1) cover
