Position Description:
   

The Astronomy Department at Cornell University invites applications for a faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level. We encourage applications from candidates who demonstrate outstanding research, teaching, mentorship, and leadership in the area of observational radio astrophysics with emphasis on gravitational wave studies and transient source science. The Department will prioritize candidates with a broad portfolio of interests and accomplishments in the field. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in research aligned with priorities from the recent Decadal Survey on Astronomy and Astrophysics, to enhance the Department’s current strengths in radio science and to build collaborations with new observational projects around the world.

We expect candidates to have an established record of high-impact research and to demonstrate the potential to build an externally-funded independent research program. The successful candidate will also have a strong record and/or commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, mentorship, and leadership of diverse groups. Cornell supports faculty excellence in pedagogy and building an inclusive campus community through the Center for Teaching Innovation and the Office of Faculty Development & Diversity. A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, Planetary Sciences or a closely related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
