Position Description:

The job:

The biophysics group at the Department of Physics, Tsinghua University is seeking for postdoctoral applicants in theoretical biological physics. The successful candidates can choose to work on one of the following areas with Yuansheng Cao and collaborate with multiple researchers across the world:

1. nonequilibrium thermodynamics of biological information processing

2. nonequilibrium physics of molecular machines

3. understanding the role of phase-separated condensates with quantitative models

4. Modeling multicellular systems in mechanobiology

5. AI assisted scientific simulation and discovery in biological physics

The initial appointment is for two years, with a possible extension of 6 months or a second term contingent on mutual agreement. We offer internationally competitive annual salary (RMB 300K+; negotiable) and benefits including excellent medical insurance, rent-subsidized on-campus housing, children‘s education and retirement plan. You have the freedom to choose research topics and to spend your time. We try hard to help you enjoy your life at Tsinghua. Outstanding applicants will be recommended for the prestigious “Shuimu Tsinghua Scholar” fellowship (https://postdoctor.tsinghua.edu.cn/info/zxtz/2097).

How to apply:

Interested candidates should submit an electronic application here at academicjobsonline or contact Yuansheng at yscao@tsinghua.edu.cn. Complete applications should include a cover letter (optional), a CV with a publication list, a research statement and at least two letters of reference. Applicants from all related backgrounds are welcome. Skills are not essential but experiences in the following areas are preferred: biological physics, quantitative biology, nonlinear dynamics, stochastic simulations, dynamic systems, numeric simulations of PDEs, deep learning, neural networks.

Our research interest:

Our focus is on theoretical and computational biological physics, ranging from the study of molecules to cells. We strive to leverage physical principles to unravel the intricacies of complex biological systems and phenomena. Collaborating closely with experimentalists across a broad range of disciplines, including structural biology, cell biology, and developmental biology, we seek to provide a holistic view of seemingly disparate biological systems. Our research seeks to answer two fundamental questions: firstly, how do the principles of dynamics and thermodynamics shape and constrain the functions of biological systems? Secondly, how can we develop effective physical models that integrate the fast-growing data generated from biological research?

Application Materials Required:
Submit the following items online at this website to complete your application:
  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Research statement
  • Two reference letters (to be submitted online by the reference writers on this site help popup)
And anything else requested in the position description.
