The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. We encourage applicants in the area of digital health, broadly defined. We seek outstanding candidates with research interests in engineering innovations that could transform future healthcare systems. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to bio-imaging/sensing, medical imaging, multi-omics, personalized health, bio-electronics, wearables, and point-of-care devices, machine learning for health, AR/VR/visualization for health, systems for health, robotics and human-computer/machine interaction for health. A particular focus will be on research that directly relates to detecting, monitoring, and treating chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, mental health, and neurodegenerative diseases that have an outsized disease burden. Candidates whose work directly addresses issues of equity and access in health are especially encouraged to apply. These areas should not be considered limiting, and any candidate who believes their work directly impacts digital health or at the intersection of health and engineering is encouraged to apply. More experienced senior candidates amid transformative research projects and with particular experience building institutional equity across their fields may also be considered.
The selected candidate will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses within their expertise; perform high-quality research in their specialized area and present findings from their research in peer-reviewed publications and conferences; establish a strong research program supported by extramural funding; be involved in service to the university and broader scientific community; and collaborate with faculty in diverse disciplines. The successful candidate will be required to have a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

About the Texas Medical Center (TMC)
Texas Medical Center (TMC), the largest medical center in the world, is right across Main Street from Rice University. Several medical institutions within the TMC, including Baylor College of Medicine, Methodist, University of Texas-Health, and MD-Anderson Cancer Research Center, have top-5 research programs in medical research. Successful candidates will be able to leverage existing institutional collaborations and other emerging collaborative relationships with TMC institutions to create translational pathways for their research outcomes.
Qualifications
All candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Digital Health, Electrical, and Computer Engineering, or a related field conferred by November 1st in the year employment commences and have professional experience consistent with the position rank. All applicants should demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching, and collegial service.
