Position Description:

Applications are invited for up to 4 postdoctoral researchers in theoretical high energy physics and cosmology at the Department of Physics and Helsinki Institute of Physics at the University of Helsinki. The positions will start on 1st September 2025, or at another date by agreement, and last for two years with a possible renewal for a third year.

The positions are hosted by the Computational Field Theory Group, and are associated with the Research Council of Finland, the European Research Council and the University of Helsinki funded research projects of Profs. Mark Hindmarsh, Kari Rummukainen and David Weir. In addition, the recently established Cosmology Data Centre Finland provides an infrastructure for computation and data analysis for the Euclid and LISA missions.

Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds or interests in one or several of the following topics: - Early Universe phase transitions - Gravitational wave cosmology - Lattice field theory - Scientific computing, including data analysis

The Department of Physics is co-located with the Helsinki Institute of Physics, and has a broad community of high energy physics, cosmology and astrophysics researchers. More information about the research areas can be found at http://www.hip.fi/. Early career researchers who have finished, or are expecting to finish, their PhD studies by the start date and whose research interests include the topics listed above, are encouraged to apply.

The positions will be covered by the Finnish General Collective Agreement for Universities, with a salary at requirement level 5 and performance level dependent on experience (3700-4000 €/month). More senior postdoctoral researchers may be appointed as University Researcher at requirement level 6.

The Department of Physics and Helsinki Institute of Physics maintain an active programme of outreach and engagement activities, and have links to English-language science communication organisations. Postdoctoral researchers with interests in outreach and science communication will be supported. In addition, postdoctoral researchers have opportunities to get involved in teaching and supervision of theses in a supportive atmosphere.

Applicants should submit a short research statement, a curriculum vitae and a list of publications through AcademicJobsOnline, and arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be supplied on their behalf.
