Position Description:

The Institute for Fundamental Physics of the Universe (IFPU, http://www.ifpu.it/), located in Trieste, Italy, is pleased to invite applications for postdoctoral research positions starting in Fall 2025.

IFPU is a collaborative initiative between the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA, http://www.sissa.it/), the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, https://www.ictp.it/), and the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF; Trieste Observatory (https://www.oats.inaf.it/index.php/en/) with the extra support of the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN, https://www.ts.infn.it/en/). The Institute fosters a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment, focusing on areas such as astroparticle physics, astrophysical probes of fundamental interactions, the early Universe, gravitational wave astrophysics, cosmic structures, and the theory and phenomenology of gravity.

Postdoctoral researchers at IFPU benefit from close collaborations with approximately 30 staff members from the supporting institutions and an active schedule of visitor and research programs. The Institute is committed to advancing innovative and cross-disciplinary research into the fundamental laws of nature from a cosmological and astrophysical standpoint. Also it routinely hosts workshops and meetings involving international researchers in all of the fields of interest listed above.

Details of Positions

- The first position (a 2+1 years term) will focus on topics related to the Astroparticle Physics group at SISSA (http://www.sissa.it/app), encompassing research on astroparticle physics, dark matter, dark energy, astrophysical probes of fundamental interactions, the early Universe, gravitational wave astrophysics, cosmic structures, and the theory and phenomenology of classical and quantum gravity.

- A second position (a 2+1 years term) and a potential third position (a 2 years term) will involve research in areas of interest to the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste and INAF. These topics include solar system studies, astrobiology, high-energy astrophysics, active galactic nuclei (AGN), stellar and galaxy evolution, galaxy clusters, the intergalactic medium (IGM), large-scale structure, and cosmology.
