Position Description:

The Mani L. Bhaumik Institute for Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California Los Angeles invites applications for several postdoctoral research associate positions starting in the fall of 2024. Successful candidates will join the GWSKy project, which is an ERC Synergy Grant funded project led by PIs Enrico Barausse (SISSA, Trieste, Italy), Zvi Bern (University of California, Los Angeles, USA). Alessandra Buonanno (Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics, Potsdam, Germany), Maarten van de Meent (Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark). The GWSky project aims to develop a groundbreaking framework capable of high-precision solutions in Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity, creating waveform models with unprecedented accuracy and translating these results into practical tools for interpreting the data. The project will be hiring postdoctoral positions in topics of importance to the theory of gravitational wave physics. The Bhaumik Institute is interested in all aspects of GWSky, especially in producing precise perturbative solutions and feeding them into waveform models.

The positions at the Bhaumik Institute usually are for three years or, in some cases, two years to take advantage of synergistic opportunities, with an additional two years arranged at another GWSky node. Mani L. Bhaumik Prize Postdoc Fellowships may be awarded to exceptionally well-qualified candidates. Further information about the Institute can be found at http://bhaumik-institute.physics.ucla.edu

Please submit a cover letter, research statement, CV, and publication list and arrange for three letters of recommendation using Academic Jobs Online. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2024.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
