Position Description

Two or more postdoctoral positions in theoretical physics towards scattering amplitudes, broadly defined, at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University, starting 2025/09/01, or as agreed. The postdoctoral positions are part of the following two projects funded by the European Research Council:

- ERC Starting Grant project AmpEFT (Scattering Amplitudes for Effective Field Theory: Simplicity and Structures from Classical to Quantum) with PI Chia-Hsien Shen.

- ERC Synergy Grant project MaScAmp (Mathematics of Scattering Amplitudes) with PIs Ruth Britto (Trinity College Dublin), Francis Brown (University of Oxford), Axel Kleinschmidt (MPI for Gravitational Physics, Potsdam) and Oliver Schlotterer (Uppsala University).

Applicants are expected to conduct research in theoretical and mathematical physics related to scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory, gravity, string theory and effective field theory as well as their interface with phenomenology, algebraic geometry and number theory. The successful candidates will join the Theoretical Physics Division in Uppsala which currently consists of approximately 30 researchers and offers a world-class environment for research in high-energy physics and mathematical physics.

As a member of the AmpEFT group, the successful candidate will enjoy the opportunity to interact with the LeCosPA Center at National Taiwan University, whose PIs include Daniel Baumann and Yu-tin Huang. As part of the Synergy Grant, the successful candidate will be part of the larger MaScAmp team and is expected to participate in regular exchanges among the nodes in Dublin, Oxford, Potsdam and Uppsala.

Prerequisites: The holder of a postdoctoral researcher position must have a PhD degree in theoretical physics or equivalent. The application should contain a CV, a brief research statement, and a publication list. The applicant should arrange to have two or more letters of recommendation made available on AcademicJobsOnline (and not to the local application platform in Uppsala). Contact information for the letter writers should be included in the application. Personal circumstances that may be of relevance in the evaluation, for example periods of parental leave, should be mentioned in the CV.

*** Additionally, applicants are required to submit the same documents, without the letters of recommendation, to the Uppsala University website by December 15th 2024:
