Position Description

The Theoretical High Energy Physics Group at the Institute for Physics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz offers several positions at the postdoctoral level (TV-L E13).

The group consists of Julia Harz, Tobias Hurth, Hans Jockers, Joachim Kopp, Matthias Neubert, Pedro Schwaller, Carlos Tamarit, Stefan Weinzierl, Felix Yu, and Jens Erler (KPH), as well as a significant number of postdoctoral fellows, PhD and master students. The interests of the group cover a wide range of topics in particle physics, particle cosmology, and field theory such as collider phenomenology, flavor and top quark physics, strong interactions, scattering amplitudes, effective field theory, especially SCET, extensions of the standard model, extra dimensions, neutrino physics, dark matter, baryogenesis, gravitational waves, non-equilibrium dynamics, thermal field theory, conformal and topological field theories, gauged linear sigma models, mirror symmetry, Gromov-Witten theory, AdS/CFT correspondence, and connections to mathematics. More detailed information about the group can be found here: www.thep.physik.uni-mainz.de/. Applications of interested candidates in all related fields are invited to apply and should indicate their previous experience and topical preference in their application material. Applicants for the ERC advanced grant "Effective field theory for non-global observable at hadron colliders" led by Matthias Neubert should specifically indicate their previous experience with SCET and collider physics.

Our research activities are integrated with the Excellence Cluster "Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter" (PRISMA+) in Mainz (www.prisma.uni-mainz.de). The proximity to the Mainz Institute for Theoretical Physics (mitp.uni-mainz.de/) ensures excellent opportunities for international collaboration. In addition, postdocs can profit from exchange agreements with ICTP/SAIFR (Sao Paulo), Fermilab, and the Tata Institute (TIFR, Mumbai).

The deadline for applications and related materials is December 16, 2024. Later applications will be considered until the positions are filled.

Application Materials Required:
Submit the following items online at this website to complete your application:
  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Research statement
  • Publication list
  • Three reference letters (to be submitted online by the reference writers on this site help popup)
And anything else requested in the position description.
