Position Description:

The Ryan Lab seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on federally-funded projects related to ice sheet surface processes. There is some flexibility in the research topic but it will likely involve contributing to projects that 1) investigate the importance of radiative feedbacks on Greenland Ice Sheet meltwater production or 2) investigate the use of ICESat-2 for characterizing ice sheet surface properties. Alongside their research, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to mentor junior lab members, organize weekly lab meetings, and present findings at conferences. The successful candidate will join the Ryan Lab which is based in the Division of Earth and Climate Sciences in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. The Ryan Lab studies interactions between the cryosphere and climate in the 21st century. Recent projects have included studies of snowfall, clouds, melt-albedo feedbacks, and supraglacial hydrology. Most research involves the use of satellite remote sensing but the Ryan Lab also has expertise in the use of drones and high-resolution image analysis to study ice sheet processes. For more information see the Ryan Lab website.
