Position Description

The postdoctoral researcher will play a leading role in developing experimental techniques for the study of rare atoms and molecules. The selected candidate will conduct experiments in our lab on campus, as well as at ISOLDE-CERN (Switzerland) and FRIB (USA). The candidate is expected to lead research on exotic molecules and make significant contributions to various experimental programs planned at these facilities. Additionally, the candidate will participate in experiments and the analysis of resulting data from these experimental campaigns. They will also support investigations into fundamental physics utilizing atoms and molecules at MIT.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Candidates are expected to conduct independent research safely, efficiently, and professionally. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the safety and quality standards of experiments are consistent with MIT's standard operating procedures. They are also expected to interact with and provide training to undergraduate and graduate students. As part of international collaborations, the selected candidate will actively engage with members of various U.S. and European institutions. The collaborative nature of the position requires availability to attend experiments in different countries and participate in international meetings.

This position requires a PhD, with experience in AMO and/or nuclear physics.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED The incumbent will receive broad direction and general guidance from the faculty PI at MIT. Weekly and biweekly meetings will be held to discuss progress. Additionally, an annual development review will take place at the end of each year. The faculty PI will encourage ongoing interaction and research collaboration with the researcher even after leaving MIT.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED The incumbent is expected to supervise, train and support technicians, undergraduate and graduate students.
