Position Description

Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Spanish and Portuguese The Macalester College Department of Spanish and Portuguese invites applications for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin fall of 2025. We are seeking a specialist in the literatures and cultures of the early Modern Iberian Peninsula and of its transatlantic communities. The subfield of specialization is open. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching courses in their area of specialization as well as Spanish and/or Portuguese language. ABD candidates will be considered; however, they must have their degree in hand prior to August 2025.

Candidates are expected to have native/near-native proficiency in Spanish and English; Portuguese a plus. The teaching load is five courses per year. Salary and benefits are competitive. Compensation and Benefits The starting range for most 1.0FTE visiting positions at Macalester College will be $60,000-$65,000, depending upon teaching experience and highest degree attained.
