Position Description
Postdoc or Visiting Faculty position in Computer Science and/or Data Science
The Macalester College Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) invites applications for a non-tenure-track visiting position to begin Fall 2025. We seek a specialist in Computer Science and/or Data Science. Preferred candidates will have a PhD (completed or near completion) in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent industry experience.
This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second year, pending review of teaching. Depending upon the candidate, this can either be structured as a postdoc or visiting faculty position. We will work with our new colleague to design their teaching load, ensuring a limited number of distinct course preparations. This individual will participate in all aspects of the program and can receive mentorship in teaching, curricular design, and research. Information on benefits and compensation is provided below. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. In addition, candidates relying on an OPT Visa with a STEM extension are not eligible for hire.

About the MSCS Department
The Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) Department offers four distinct majors: Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science. MSCS has 12 full-time Computer Scientists and several other math and statistics faculty who contribute to the Computer Science curriculum. It is the largest department on campus in terms of enrollments and majors – roughly 20% of the 2025 graduating class (approximately 100 students) will earn at least one MSCS major. Our faculty embrace the rich multidisciplinary, collegial, and collaborative nature of our joint department. We value pedagogical and curricular innovation, undergraduate research mentoring, and outreach to the vibrant Minneapolis and Saint Paul metropolitan community. Benefits & Compensation
The starting salary range for visiting faculty in Computer Science is $81,000-$85,000, depending upon teaching / industry experience and highest degree attained. 4) a teaching statement: a statement of your experience in, commitment to, and vision for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Discuss pedagogical approaches (e.g., inclusive teaching, active and innovative teaching strategies, assessment of learning outcomes), future teaching development goals, and courses you’d be passionate to teach.
5) OPTIONAL research statement: Candidates interested in supervising undergraduate research are also encouraged to submit a research statement.
