Position Description
Postdoctoral researcher positions in theoretical condensed
matter physics starting 2025 fall are available at Department of Physics, The Hong Kong University of
Science and Technology (HKUST). The Condensed Matter Theory (CMT) group boasts a wide
array of research areas including novel materials, topological phases of
matter, non-equilibrium physics, quantum magnetism, superconductivity and
other correlated phenomena in quantum many-body systems. Our group consists of 5 principal Investigators, Prof. Xi Dai (daix@ust.hk), Prof. Kam Tuen Law (phlaw@ust.hk), Prof. Junwei Liu (liuj@ust.hk), Prof. Hoi Chun Po (hcpo@ust.hk) and Prof. Xue-Yang Song (songxy@ust.hk).
The positions support an annual travel subsidy of up to 3 months to oversea institutions, subject to research performance and
qualification.
The candidate is expected to collaborate primarily with one or two aforementioned principal investigators in CMT group.
Required
Qualifications
• PhD
in theoretical condensed matter physics
With
experience preferably in the following aspects:
•
Emergent quantum phenomena in strongly correlated systems; Analytic or
numerical methods of quantum many-body systems and non-equilibrium systems; Quantum
field theory; Modeling and calculation of solid-state systems, and AMO systems,
etc
Highly qualified candidates may be considered for “Postdoctoral Fellow” title of CMT or HKUST Institute for Advanced study (IAS). Appointments will be made initially with a 2-year initial contract with gratuity, renewable up to 3 years in total depending on mutual interests and performance. The salary starts at HK$400,000 per year and depends on qualifications. Opportunities to attend and speak at conferences and workshops will be provided, with expenses covered following university regulations. Fringe benefits including medical and dental benefits, annual leave, contract-end gratuity will be provided where applicable.
