Position Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The research group of Sergej Moroz at Karlstad University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position, starting in 2025 (start date negotiable). The position includes funding for travel and is supported by the Carl Trygger Foundation through the grant “In pursuit of deconfined quantum criticality and exotic p-wave pairing using two-dimensional tensor networks.” Salary will be provided in the form of a tax-free scholarship.

RESEARCH FOCUS:

The successful candidate will contribute to the theoretical investigation of two-dimensional Ising lattice gauge theories coupled to dynamical fermion matter using two-dimensional tensor network methods. This work builds on our ongoing, long-term research program centered on discrete gauge theories—an area that has recently attracted significant attention in the context of experimental quantum simulations.

More information about our group’s work on quantum phases of matter at Karlstad University is available here: https://sites.google.com/view/quantum-matter-kau/home

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• A Ph.D. (completed or near completion) in theoretical physics or a closely related field

• A strong background in condensed matter theory, quantum many-body physics, or related areas

• Familiarity with tensor network methods, lattice gauge theories, or quantum field theory techniques is highly desirable
