Position Description
The Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (http://tdli.sjtu.edu.cn) invites applications (expressions of interests) for a number of short-term T.D. Lee Visiting Professorship and T.D. Lee Visiting Postdoctoral Fellowship positions in astrophysics for the year 2025. TDLI is a national research institute named after the renowned Chinese-American physicist Tsung-Dao Lee (Nobel Prize 1957). TDLI is devoted to fundamental research and graduate training in particle physics, astrophysics and condensed matter physics. The TDLI astrophysics division currently has 18 faculty members: 14 in astrophysics and 4 in plasma physics (including laboratory astrophysics). The division is expected to undergo significant expansion in the coming years. TDLI/SJTU is building 4-meter spectroscopic telescope, to be completed in 2026, for time-domain science, cosmology and exoplanets. TDLI has an internationalized environment with English as its working language. The T.D Lee Visiting Professor and Postdoctoral Fellow programs are established to allow active research scientists of various levels to come to the TDLI campus for extended visits. The aim is to facilitate short-term collaborative research interactions and to invigorate the academic/intellectual atmosphere of TDLI. A visiting professor/fellow does not have regular teaching duties, and will be encouraged to engage in various intellectual activities at TDLI, including (if interested or appropriate) help organize research workshop/conference in coordination with TDLI faculty. The areas of expertise of the visiting professors/fellows cover all fields of astrophysics, including both theory and observations, with topics ranging from high-energy/time-domain astronomy, exoplanets and stars, plasma astrophysics, to galaxies and cosmology. The duration of each visit is typically a month; shorter-term (a few weeks) or longer-term (a few months, e.g. sabbatical leave) visits are also possible. TDLI will typically cover the local expenses of the visiting professors/fellows, and depending on the individual cases and needs, may also cover the international airfare and provide additional stipend. Faculty members and postdocs interested in these positions are encouraged to send a brief email to leeastronomy@sjtu.edu.cn and cc to duanlisha@sjtu.edu.cn to express interest, indicating the desired time frame of visit, the required/expected financial support, and including a CV. Applications will be considered all year around, with quarterly deadlines at the ends of February, May, August and November. For people interested in visiting during 2025, the applications received before Feb. 28, 2025 will receive full consideration.Application Materials Required:
