Position Description

The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Nonequilibrium Statistical Physics and Mathematical Physics group. The position is funded through the University of Ljubljana's startup program "Nonergodicity from Exotic Symmetries" (NESY), led by Lenart Zadnik.

The successful candidate will contribute to research on the role of exotic symmetries in the nonequilibrium dynamics of quantum many-body systems. Key topics include the emergence and coexistence of nonergodic many-body phenomena in kinetically constrained models, slow dynamics, semilocal symmetry-protected topological order, dynamical symmetries, Hilbert-space fragmentation, as well as the interplay between nonergodicity and dissipation.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, quantum many-body systems, integrable models, or tensor-network simulations of dynamics.

The Nonequilibrium Statistical Physics and Mathematical Physics group offers a vibrant and collaborative research environment. Among current members are Tomaž Prosen, Marko Žnidarič, Sašo Grozdanov, Enej Ilievski, and Lenart Zadnik. The group's research topics include nonequilibrium statistical physics of integrable and chaotic quantum and classical many-body systems, transport phenomena and their universality, quantum circuits and classical cellular automata, holographic duality, and hydrodynamics.

The expected start date is autumn 2025, but earlier appointments can be arranged. The position is initially offered for two years, with a possible extension for an additional year. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
