Position Description

The Department of Biology at Mount Allison University invites applications for two full-time positions (Position A and Position B, both are sabbatical replacements). One position will be appointed for a 9-month sessional and one for a 12-month term. Applicants to either position should possess a Ph.D. by the time of appointment with specialization relevant to the position they are applying to (see below), have a strong commitment to and experience in undergraduate teaching, and be strongly committed to equity, diversity, and inclusivity in post-secondary institutions.

POSITION A: We are seeking someone to co-teach Foundations of Biology (BIOL 1001), and to teach Human Physiology (BIOL3211), and two additional third- or fourth-year courses, which could include Animal Behavior (BIOL 3401), Neurophysiology (BIOL 4311), or possibly other courses related to human physiology proposed by the successful candidate.

POSITION B: We are seeking someone to teach Form & Function: Plants (BIOL 2301), Genetics & Evolution (BIOL 2811), and two third- or fourth-year courses. The third- or fourth-year courses may include Native Flora (BIOL 3501), Ecological Genetics (BIOL 3601), Theoretical & Evolutionary Ecology (BIOL 3801), or possibly other courses related to plants, evolution, or genetics proposed by the successful candidate.

Both appointments will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The two successful candidates will be expected to participate in departmental activities and will have the opportunity to supervise undergraduate research students if they so desire (student research supervision is not a job requirement). Subject to budgetary approval, one position will be appointed for a 9-month sessional (August 2025 – April 2026), and the other for a 12-month term (July 2025 – June 2026). The decision of which position (A or B) is assigned the 9-month or 12-month term will be at the discretion of the two search committees, with input from the successful candidates.
