Position Description

The SLAC Fundamental Physics Directorate (FPD) has an opening for a postdoctoral Research Associate position in Quantum Information Science to conduct research on the effects of radiation on spin and superconducting qubits. The initial appointment will be made for a term of two years, renewable dependent on performance, and offers excellent benefits and salary. This research will involve experimental measurements and close collaboration with modelers to develop a greater understanding of how radiation propagates through the nanoscale devices used for quantum information science, which is important for both quantum computing and dark matter sensing applications. The postdoc will join the FPD Quantum group and will work at the SLAC milliKelvin Facility, a new and growing interdisciplinary facility for quantum information science at SLAC. The start date of the appointment is flexible and can be as early as May 2025.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in physics or a related field prior to starting the appointment, no later than Summer/Fall 2025. A successful candidate will demonstrate a record of leadership, communication, and creative problem solving. Previous experience with fabricating or operating semiconductor spin qubits or superconducting devices, as well as working with dilution refrigerators, is desirable, but not required. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae including a publication list, a statement of research interests and plans, and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation submitted to the same site. FPD is committed to an inclusive work environment and encourages applications from candidates who will diversify the workforce in quantum information science and/or will bring additional dimensions to Stanford and SLAC’s research and educational missions. More information about Stanford’s ongoing commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment can be found at ideal.stanford.edu. For further information regarding the position, please contact Dr. Noah Kurinsky (kurinsky@slac.stanford.edu) or Dr. Shannon Harvey (spharvey@slac.stanford.edu).
