Position Description

The Bursac lab in the department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to plan, supervise, direct, and execute research in skeletal muscle bioengineering and physiology. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of skeletal muscle biology, physiology, and congenital and acquired neuromuscular diseases, as well as extensive experience in related laboratory techniques including pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation, engineering of muscle tissue constructs from primary progenitor and stem cells, gene and protein expression analyses, genetic modifications of cells and tissues, and measurements of muscle function and metabolism in vitro and in vivo. The candidate will provide technical expertise to lead in the development and troubleshooting of study design, sample or data collection, data analysis, result interpretation, manuscript writing, conference presentations, and grant proposal preparations. This position also provides opportunities to supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and laboratory technicians, and lead projects or team research initiatives, as well as develop grant applications. The position will also entail collaborative research with other faculty in and outside Duke University. 

The candidate should possess a doctoral degree in one of the following areas: biomedical/bio engineering, biochemistry, physiology, cell biology, or a related discipline. A minimum of four years of research experience after a doctoral degree is strongly preferred. A record of verifiable and relevant published research is required; the potential to obtain extramural funding is strongly preferred. Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required.
