The McGill University experimental subatomic physics research group invites applications for one Postdoctoral Research Contractor position on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN laboratory. Key Responsibilities: • To play a key part in the development, testing and commissioning of next-generation readout for the ATLAS experiment liquid argon calorimeter system. Responsibilities will include coordinating and executing system integration tests of prototype electronics components, contributing to the development of user interfaces and data acquisition tools, and the installation and commissioning of different readout components. • To conduct and lead analyses of multi-boson production and electroweak gauge boson studies. • To provide scientific and technical support to staff and students within the McGill research group involved in the ATLAS calorimeter readout upgrade and the analysis of LHC data. Required Education and Experience: • Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics or a closely related field. Qualifying Skills: • Proficiency in software development using both Python and C++, with experience working in Linux-based environments and version control systems such as Git. • Proven ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative research environment. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal abilities. • Demonstrated ability to analyze research data and present findings clearly at seminars, scientific conferences, and technical meetings. Desired Experience: • Electronics readout and data acquisition systems. • Analysis of LHC collision data. Position Details: The successful candidate will be based full-time at the CERN laboratory in Switzerland. The position will involve occasional short-term travel for professional purposes. This is a renewable, limited-term position. The initial appointment is for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. Salary and schedule will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and skills.
