Position Description

The Center for Advanced Genomic Technologies in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University.

The Gersbach Lab at Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking an Associate in Research. This role will involve hands-on work with primary human T cell culture, lentiviral-mediated epigenetic and genetic engineering of T cells, and the development of patient-derived xenograft tumor mouse models. The Associate in Research will also collaborate closely with various T cell-focused research groups within the lab, contributing to a dynamic and team-oriented environment. Strong organizational skills and a keen interest in immunology and cancer immunotherapy are highly desired.

Research Development (70%): This will include designing and carrying out experiments in the laboratory, including cell culture and molecular biology techniques.

Data Analysis and Presentation/Writing/Publication (20%): This will include analyzing, interpreting, and cataloguing all results and experimental designs, including communicating this work to your supervisor.

Supervision/Collaboration/Communication (10%): Communication of results and workflows to your supervisor and other lab members via 1:1 meetings. Presentation at lab meetings and subgroup meetings will also be expected.

Minimum Qualifications EXPECTATION: Conformance to standards of responsible conduct in research

Compliance with good scholarly and research practice

Maintenance of a laboratory notebook and/or other comparable records of research activity, which remains the property of Duke University upon termination

Adherence to University standards regarding use of isotopes, chemicals, infectious agents, animals, human subjects, and the like

Open and timely discussion with the mentor regarding all facets of the research activities.

Prompt disclosure to the mentor regarding the possession and desire to distribute materials, reagents, software, copyrightable and potentially patentable discoveries derived from the research.

Collegial conduct towards members of the research group and others as described in the Duke University School of Medicine Honor Code of Professional Conduct and other relevant conduct policies pertaining to other schools at Duke University.

Compliance with all applicable University and departmental policies and procedures. Education: Minimum expectations are a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related field.

Experience: At least 2 years experience working in a molecular and cell biology laboratory with expertise in cell culture and analysis of DNA and RNA, including recombinant DNA technology.

Essential Skills Experience with molecular biology assays, recombinant DNA technology, and cell culture. Ability to independently analyze data and present research results. Strong organizational skills and a keen interest in immunology and cancer immunotherapy are highly desired.
