The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) invites applications from academic scientists or clinician-scientists seeking to advance their careers in microbiome, pain, bioinformatics, and sepsis research. The department is committed to excellence in education and research, with active collaborations across international and mainland institutions.

We are based at the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), a 1,637-bed tertiary referral teaching hospital offering a wide range of acute specialist services, including stroke, obstetric, cardiac care, and trauma. Each year, over 14,000 operations are performed in the main operating theatres, with approximately one-third being emergency cases. An additional 2,000 anaesthetics are administered in other clinical areas, including obstetric suites. The 26-bed adult Intensive Care Unit provides medical and surgical critical care to over 1,800 patients annually. Located within the hospital campus, the Li Ka Shing Science Building houses animal research facilities and laboratories for basic scientists, PhD students, and postdoctoral fellows.

Candidates should possess:
(i) a PhD or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related disciplines, with at least two years of postdoctoral experience;
(ii) extensive research experience in gut microbiota and/or infection biology;
(iii) a competitive publication record and demonstrated research achievements;
(iv) a strong track record of external funding; and
(v) experience in postgraduate student supervision.

Collaborative experience and the ability to develop research across regions will be advantageous.

The appointee(s) will (a) supervise postgraduate students; (b) develop and participate in independent and/or collaborative research projects globally and within Asia-Pacific region; (c) secure research funding; (d) manage laboratories and contribute to CUHK College activities; and (e) undertake related administrative duties. The appointee(s) will be required to work at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Shatin, or other assigned offices.

Research Assistant Professor(s): Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement.

Assistant Professor(s) (Non-clinical): Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation.
