Position Description

The Department of Anthropology at Macalester College invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Biological Anthropology, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin fall, 2026. Suitable candidates at the rank of associate or full professor will also be considered. Applicants should have substantial teaching experience, and evidence of sound scholarship and research experience. Candidates may negotiate a shortened timeline to tenure, depending on their level of experience. A broad training in the four fields is desirable but not necessary. Specialization in biological anthropology open, but the department has a strong preference for candidates able to teach osteology and paleopathology, and/or forensic anthropology. The normal teaching load is 5 courses/year. Besides topics in their specialization, the successful candidate should be prepared to teach courses in introductory biological anthropology and human evolution. The starting salary range for this position will be $83,000-85,000, depending on experience. For advanced assistant or associate level candidates, the salary would be higher and based on internal equity. At Macalester, we offer a generous package of employee benefits. Here are some highlights:
