Position Description

The University of Richmond Department of Computer Science invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year.

We welcome applicants from all fields within computer science. A completed Ph.D. in computer science is required for this position by the time of appointment. The successful applicant is expected to commit to highly effective teaching at all levels of the curriculum and to maintain a productive research program that engages undergraduates in meaningful research outcomes. We seek a colleague committed to fostering an inclusive environment that makes computer science accessible to all students.

Our department advances this mission by cultivating a welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment for our faculty and students to collaborate in courses and research. Computer science faculty work across disciplines, such as music, psychology, health sciences, and dance, to provide students with unique experiences that humanize computing technologies. Members of the department engage proactively with curriculum curation and student organization mentorship to continuously improve the student experience. We are a collegial, supportive department committed to educational and research excellence. New colleagues will find a strong culture of mentorship and shared responsibility for departmental decision-making.
 

Applicants should apply online at this link and submit a single PDF file containing a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and two statements: a teaching statement describing the candidate’s teaching philosophy, experience, interests; and a research statement describing their research agenda. Each statement should reflect the candidate’s vision for creating an environment of inclusivity and belonging that is in alignment with our department’s stated mission. The cover letter and the teaching statement should be no longer than 2 pages each; the research statement can be up to 4 pages.  For full consideration, applicants must summarize in their cover letter how their inclusive teaching and scholarly objectives will contribute to the computer science department in the context of an undergraduate liberal arts education at UR. The successful candidate's statements should highlight as well how undergraduates may be incorporated into the candidate's research program.
