Duke University, Biomedical Engineering
Position Description
Associate in Research in Venturelli Lab
An Associate in Research position is available on September 1, 2025 in the Venturelli Lab (www.venturellilab.org). The Venturelli Lab aims to understand how interactions across genetic, molecular and ecological scales impact the dynamic functions of microbial communities. For this position, the major goal is to develop advanced computational modeling frameworks that combine physics and machine learning to predict, understand and engineer microbial community dynamics and functions. Responsibilities for this position include:
Development and validation of computational modeling frameworks that combine physics and machine learning to predict and design microbial community dynamics and functions
Apply active learning frameworks to optimize metabolic activities of microbial communities in silico
Required Qualifications at this Level
BS in biology, chemistry or engineering or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience in nonlinear dynamical systems, machine learning and multi-objective optimization techniques. Research Associates are expected to contribute to ongoing research projects and lead their project. Interested candidates should send their CV to Dr. Ophelia Venturelli (ophelia.venturelli@duke.edu).
