Position Description:
Position Description
Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Physical Cosmology Stanford University seeks recent Ph.D. scientists for a postdoctoral research position in Professor Oliver Philcox’s physical cosmology group. The successful candidate will join the vibrant research community at Stanford, both as part of the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC) and the Leinweber Institute for Theoretical Physics (LITP). Potential research topics include: inflationary cosmology and its connection to late-time observables; large-scale structure theory and analysis; cosmic microwave background theory and analysis; other probes of fundamental physics in the early- and late-Universe. Candidates should have or expect to receive a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics prior to starting their appointment. Knowledge of theoretical and/or observational cosmology, particularly including perturbative methods, will be an asset. Candidates with a strong background in other theoretical or data analysis fields and an interest in learning more about physical cosmology are also strongly encouraged to apply. Our group is working on a diverse set of problems across both theory, simulations, and observation (including through application to public data from Planck and DESI) and are excited to expand in new directions. We welcome applications from candidates interested in working in these or related areas. Research efforts in KIPAC and LITP span a wide range of topics from astrophysics to condensed matter, including particle physics, biophysics, and quantum gravity. The departments offer significant computational resources for data analysis, and also provide the opportunity to collaborate with Stanford Data Science, the Center for Decoding the Universe, the SLAC theory group, and a number of other cross-disciplinary initiatives. This position offers a competitive salary of $85-90k, depending on experience, along with excellent benefits (https://postdocbenefits.stanford.edu/). The appointment will be made for a term of three years. Interested candidates should submit application materials through the KIPAC fellowship application: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/30510 and indicate their interest in Theoretical Cosmology. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae including a publication list, a three page statement of research interests and plans, and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation submitted to the same site. The deadline for applications is November 3, 2025 (by midnight Eastern Time). Please contact Oliver Philcox (ophilcox@stanford.edu) for more information on this position. More information about KIPAC and LITP can be found at http://kipac.stanford.edu/ and https://sitp.stanford.edu/, respectively. Stanford is committed to an inclusive work environment and encourages applications from candidates who will diversify the workforce in astrophysics, cosmology, and theoretical physics. We are not accepting applications for this job through AcademicJobsOnline.Org right now.
