The Researching Engineering, Design and Educational Systems (REDES) team within Cornell University’s Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) and the Systems Engineering Program is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our team as a Postdoctoral Associate in Engineering Education Research. The REDES team works on projects that examine and transform the interconnections, structures, and transition points that are critical to creating effective learning and work systems within engineering. The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate with Professor Alexandra Coso Strong to examine how institutions build capacity (e.g., human, organizational, infrastructure) to conduct research and support workforce development efforts on their campuses. This collaborative research project will use mixed methods to investigate the experiences within one institution and develop insights that can be shared other institutions and funding agencies. Beyond the research, the postdoctoral associate will join a supportive group of discipline-based education researchers across the Cornell University campus. The position start date is negotiable, with a preferred start date of no later than June 1, 2026.Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate to define the types of capacity (e.g., human, organizational, leadership, infrastructure) contributing to effective workforce development at a higher education institution and examine the systems structures enabling and affecting capacity development.
- Develop knowledge about and engage with theories from organizational development and systems engineering.
- Collect and analyze data using quantitative and qualitative research methods, such as surveys, interviews, and observations.
- Contribute to the preparation of research reports, scholarly publications, and/or research proposals.
- Present research findings at conferences and seminars.
- Assist in the supervision and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students involved in the REDES team.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Engineering Education, STEM Education, Engineering, or a related field to be completed by January 1st.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Demonstrated expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.
