Position Description
Maryland Center for Fundamental Physics (MCFP) and the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS) at the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, seek applications for a postdoctoral research associate to work at the intersection of Nuclear Physics and Quantum Simulation/Computation. Candidates with various levels of expertise in quantum field theory, including lattice gauge theory, quantum simulation and quantum computation, and analytical and numerical methods in nuclear physics and adjacent fields, such as high-energy physics, will be given priority. The post-doc research associate(s) will join the group of Prof. Zohreh Davoudi (https://www.davoudi-academic.com/) and will work at the Physical Sciences Complex on the campus of UMD, with close proximity to a strong and diverse community of faculty, fellows, and researchers in fundamental physics (including nuclear, particle, and gravitational physics) and quantum information sciences (including quantum simulation, quantum sensing, quantum information, and quantum computation). In addition to Maryland Center for Fundamental Physics (https://mcfp.physics.umd.edu/) and the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (https://quics.umd.edu/), the post-doc researcher(s) will enjoy interacting with researchers at the NSF Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation (https://rqs.umd.edu/), the Joint Quantum Institute (https://jqi.umd.edu/), and the National Quantum Lab (Q-Lab) (https://qlab.umd.edu/) with priority access to world-class quantum-computing facilities, among others. Applications submitted by Dec 1, 2025 will be given the best consideration. The start date of the appointment is Fall 2026 but earlier or later start dates can be negotiated. This is a two-year position with the possibility of renewal for an extra year. In addition to a competitive salary and standard benefits, the position includes modest funds to cover research-related expenses. Please submit a cover letter, a CV (that includes publication list), and a research statement (no more than two pages excluding bibliography). Please also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted through AJO. Your cover letter must state your particular areas of interest and expertise, and their relevance to the position described. For questions regarding the position, you can contact Prof. Davoudi at davoudi@umd.edu. EEO Statement: The University of Maryland, College Park is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
