Position Description
The Condensed Matter Theory group at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar researcher position in Theoretical Condensed Matter. Professor Alex Thomson is accepting applicants for a postdoctoral research position in Condensed Matter Theory, with a focus on 2D Quantum Materials. Research will investigate strongly correlated states of matter such as unconventional superconductors, fractional quantum Hall systems, and exotic metals. The goal will be to understand both the microscopic origin of these phases in different material systems and to identify their experimental signatures. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with other condensed matter faculty. A Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Theory Physics or related area(s) prior to beginning employment is required. Prior experience working on 2D quantum materials and topological matter is preferred but not a requirement. The appointment is to begin September 1, 2026. This is a full-time, two-year postdoctoral scholar appointment with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funding, and ongoing operational needs. Candidates must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience. Interested candidates should submit or send a Cover Letter, Curriculum Vitae (including a full publication list), a Statement of Research Interests and Experiences (maximum of 3 pages), and three (3) letters of recommendation.
