Position Description
The Particle Physics Directorate at Fermilab seeks outstanding candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Muon Division. The Research Associate’s portfolio will include constructing, commissioning, and operating state-of-the-art experimental instrumentation, alongside reconstruction and analysis, whilst based at the Fermilab site in Illinois. The Muon Division hosts the Mu2e Experiment, which searches for Charged Lepton Flavor Violation. Successful candidates will play a leading role in commissioning this experiment, focusing on data originating from two of Fermilab’s key detector systems: the beam extinction monitor and the straw tracker. The Research Associate will then play a leading role in analyzing the data collected.The successful candidate will:
- Have a Ph.D. in particle physics, nuclear physics, or another relevant subject by the time of the appointment, with experience in analysis, experimental instrumentation, and operations.
- Solve problems that require creative solutions using available resources.
- Construct, integrate, and operate state-of-the-art instrumentation with an international team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, including students at all levels.
- Play a leading role in analyzing scientific data.
- Participate in the research and development of scientific instrumentation for upcoming experiments.
- Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
- Contribute effectively within a diverse workforce and upholds Fermilab’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
