Position Description

Forensic Psychiatrist WRCH

WORCESTER RECOVERY CENTER AND HOSPITAL (WRCH), a Department of Mental Health (DMH) hospital, and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) board-certified or board-eligible (forensic) psychiatrist to serve on one of the court-evaluation units (CEUs). WRCH is the largest psychiatric facility in MA, a state-of-the-art hospital built in 2012, serving individuals with severe mental health conditions from across the state. While forensic training is recommended, it is not required for interested psychiatrists to apply. The hospital offers ongoing trainings and strong academic, administrative, and legal supports for all providers and staff.

Academic Opportunities: Supervision of psychiatry residents and medical students; Department support for leadership training, research, and other educational endeavors through various UMass Chan-sponsored programs; Various CME activities, including grand rounds, journal clubs, law and psychiatry lectures, and DMH-sponsored trainings, workshops and events.

The selected candidate will be recommended for a UMass Chan faculty appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor based on qualifications. which includes Departmental support for clinical, training and research. The benefit package includes generous holiday and paid time off for professional development totaling to more than 7 weeks; generous medical, dental, and malpractice insurance; eligibility to participate in the state’s defined benefit pension plan or a defined contribution retirement plan; and an annual practice allowance. There is the option for voluntary night, weekends, and holiday coverage with highly competitive reimbursement. In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the established Department of Mental Health base salary for this position is $255,000 (exclusive of benefits and retirement).

At UMass Chan Medical School, final base salary offers are determined based on a combination of factors, including your skills, education, and relevant experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent compensation across our teams.

Please note that the range provided reflects the full base salary range for this position. Offers are typically made within the starting range to allow for future growth and development within the role. In addition to base pay, UMass Chan offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package, which includes paid time off, medical, dental, and vision coverage, and participation in a 401A retirement plan
