Position Description

Associate in Research Sommer Laboratory in Duke Biomedical Engineering and Neurobiology 

 The Sommer Laboratory at Duke University is seeking a research associate to assist with scientific and bioengineering projects. Responsibilities include 1) performing histology, including sectioning tissues, conducting immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, mounting tissues, coverslipping slides, and microscopy; 2) working with laboratory animals, including daily training and care and helping with surgical procedures; 3) assisting with general laboratory organization, including ordering, receipt reporting, and helping to keep the lab in compliance with school, state, and federal regulations; 4) helping with other research and hardware/software design projects in alignment with the candidate’s skills and interests. Applicants should have a BS or higher degree in a biological or engineering discipline, or be currently enrolled in such a degree program. Must have experience with histological techniques and animal research. On the job training will be provided as needed. The position is for one year, with the possibility of continuing past that depending on performance and lab funding.
