OVERVIEW The Condensed Matter Theory Group at Hanyang University seeks highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join our team. RESEARCH AREAS [Condensed Matter Physics] - Quantum topology and geometry - Topological materials (graphene, bilayer systems, Dirac/Weyl semimetals, higher-order topological phases) - Topological superconductivity & Majorana fermions - Frustrated magnetism & quantum spin liquids - Non-Hermitian quantum systems - Strongly correlated electron systems [Quantum Information & Computation] - Quantum algorithms and quantum simulation of physical systems - Realization of physical concepts on quantum computers (Qiskit, Cirq, etc.) - Fault-tolerant topological quantum computation - Quantum error correction - Topological / neutral-atom quantum computer & simulator platforms [Numerical & Computational Methods] - Dynamical Mean-Field Theory (DMFT) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) - Density Matrix Embedding Theory (DMET) - Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) - Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) - Tensor network methods [Theoretical Physics Interface] - String theory & its applications to condensed matter - Holographic methods in many-body physics 4. POSITION DETAILS — THREE-TIER POSTDOC PROGRAM We offer three tiers of postdoctoral appointments. Applicants must select and apply for the track that best matches their career stage and research record. The selection committee reserves the right to recommend a different tier from the one originally applied for, if deemed more appropriate after review. [4-1. Junior Postdoc] - Target: Recent PhD graduates or early-career researchers with strong potential. - Salary: 45,000,000 – 55,000,000 KRW/year (USD ~33,000 – 40,000) - Duration: Initial 1-year appointment, extendable up to 3 years based on performance. - Role: Conduct research under close mentorship of the PI; collaborate with senior members; build a strong publication record. [4-2. Senior Postdoc] - Target: Researchers with 2+ years of postdoctoral experience and a strong publication record, capable of leading sub-projects. - Salary: 60,000,000 – 70,000,000 KRW/year (USD ~44,000 – 51,000) - Duration: Initial 1-year appointment, extendable up to 4 years based on performance. - Role: Co-design research directions; mentor graduate students and Junior Postdocs; lead collaborative projects with partner institutions. [4-3. Super Postdoc] - Target: Outstanding researchers with an excellent independent research track record, aiming for tenure-track positions. - Salary: 70,000,000 – 80,000,000 KRW/year (USD ~51,000 – 58,000) - Duration: Initial 1-year appointment, extendable up to 4 years based on performance. - Role: Pursue an independent research agenda within the group; supervise students and Junior/Senior Postdocs; co-author proposals and represent the group in international collaborations. Note: Salary figures include the four major social insurances and severance pay, and depend on qualifications. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS We welcome applicants from various areas of theoretical physics, including condensed matter physics, quantum information, and string theory. In particular, we are looking for researchers who fit one or more of the following profiles: - Condensed Matter Theorists with a strong background in topological physics, quantum geometry, or topological superconductivity - Quantum Information Researchers with experience in quantum algorithms, quantum simulation, fault-tolerant quantum computation, or numerical methods - String Theorists / Mathematical Physicists interested in connections to condensed matter physics or quantum computation - Computational / First-Principles Physicists with experience in DMFT, DFT, DMRG, DMET, QMC, tensor networks, or quantum-computing frameworks (Qiskit, Cirq, etc.) Minimum Requirements: - Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field (received or expected at the time of appointment) - Strong publication record appropriate to the level of position applied for - Ability to identify and pursue research problems independently while contributing to a collaborative team 7.
