Position Description
We are seeking exceptional candidates for a position as a Research Scientist to help develop/fabricate/test novel point-of-care diagnostic platforms. The research scientist will also contribute towards other projects involving biointerface science, surface chemistry, and biomolecular engineering.The Chilkoti Laboratory at Duke University is a multidisciplinary group that has a particular interest in developing low-cost, point-of-care diagnostics and in applying polymer technology towards clinically impactful applications. As a member of this research group, you will be expected to:
• Work as part of a team to develop new and innovative fabrication strategies for the next generation of point-of-care diagnostic technologies in the Chilkoti Laboratory.
• Perform complex laboratory experiments, obtain data sets from your research, and present the experimental results concisely to all relevant stakeholders.
• Convert findings into manuscripts for publication in academic journals, grant applications, and patents.
• Review the work of laboratory personnel and assist in training new personnel.
A PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field is required. We will prioritize applicants who also have the following:
• A successful history of managing interdisciplinary projects with multiple moving parts.
• Experience in a “wet lab” (e.g. familiarity with pipets, centrifuges, freeze/thaw cycles, dangerous chemical/biological substances and appropriate safety precautions, etc.)
• A history of high-level academic writing in the form of drafting and publication of manuscript and drafting and submission of grant applications.
• A history in manufacturing techniques such as laser-cutting, injection molding, 3D-printing, and CNC milling.
