The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan), Department of Psychiatry seeks a full-time research faculty for its Lifeline for Families Division. With a multidisciplinary team with experts in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, obstetrics and gynecology (Ob/Gyn), and pediatrics Lifeline for Families conducts paradigm-shifting work focused on addressing parental and child mental health. The faculty member will be part of our team which has expertise in parental and child mental health and deep relationships with community partners, including medical societies and policymakers. In collaboration with these community partners, Lifeline for Families develops, implements, and tests interventions that increase access to, and engagement in, evidence-based mental health care for families. This faculty position will have the opportunity to collaborate and build on our existing projects in which we focus on:

• Building the capacity of nontraditional settings and developing practical approaches to addressing mental health as part of perinatal, infant, and child health care, no matter what door the family enters.

• Creating and evaluating feasible and scalable care delivery models, trainings, and tools for families to be supported by the professionals they present to, regardless of that professional’s specific discipline.

• Innovative solutions driven by our research, the voices of community partners, and others’ research.

As a team embedded in UMass Chan Medical School, the Commonwealth's only public medical school and a public institution focused on community and public health, our Lifeline for Families Center provides a unique environment for conducting research focused on changing the landscape for maternal, child, and overall family health. Current studies at Lifeline for Families range from outpatient Ob/Gyn and pediatric settings to community settings and include developing, implementing and evaluating innovative approaches to increase access to care through capacity building as well as existing extramurally funded clinical and implementation studies. Current active research includes CDC, PCORI, NIMH, SAMHSA, foundation, and state funded projects.

This faculty member will be supported in continuing and growing their independent research program and collaborations with others. There will be ample opportunity for collaborating with other Lifeline for Families team members and our collaborators on funded projects, grant submissions, publications, and presentations. The position will also include numerous opportunities for mentoring trainees including students, fellows, residents, and junior faculty.

This faculty role will be tailored to the career goals of the individual. For example, if of interest, this person can opt to collaborate with Lifeline for Families team members on a statewide system to evaluate how to increase access to evidence-based trauma services and medical and community supports for children impacted by trauma and adversity or our trauma-informed care and trauma-responsive practices and trainings. If of interest, the faculty members will have the opportunity to work on studies that focus on integrating behavioral healthcare into the obstetric settings, including developing, studying, and integrating into practice cutting-edge approaches to implementing mental health care in non-mental health settings, including e-health and m-health technologies.

UMass Chan School of Medical School is the only academic medical school in central Massachusetts and a destination site for excellent clinical care. It is a national leader in public sector psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, neurodevelopmental disorders, biological psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, forensic psychiatry, psychosocial rehabilitation, women’s mental health, and addiction psychiatry.

Successful candidates will receive a faculty appointment that includes Departmental support for training and research. The benefit package is a generous state plan with holiday and paid time off totaling to more than 7 weeks.
