Position Description

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University invites applications for tenure-track faculty at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor. Tenure on appointment is possible for senior candidates. We encourage applications from outstanding candidates in the areas of systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and/or data science, particularly those whose work engages with the societal relevance and impact of these technologies. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the date of employment.

Successful candidates will lead strong research programs, contribute to our educational mission, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and contribute to reducing systemic bias in the field of computing. Applicants should demonstrate a strong potential for, or (for tenure-upon-hire applicants) an outstanding record of, research and scholarship, as well as a clear commitment to students and learning. Successful candidates must also be committed to the enhancement of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in which world-class faculty, staff, and students can excel. We particularly encourage applications from members of groups underrepresented in computing. For more details, applicants may refer to Lehigh’s strategic plan elements around inclusion and equity (https://www2.lehigh.edu/diversity-inclusion-equity/plan).

The CSE Department (https://www.cse.lehigh.edu/) currently has 19 tenured and tenure-track professors (three with joint appointments) and 10 instructional faculty, with strengths in systems, robotics, human-centered computing, data science, and AI. CSE faculty include fellows of the ACM, IEEE, NAI, and the Humboldt Foundation, as well as several NSF CAREER award winners. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in ongoing research projects including those associated with Lehigh’s interdisciplinary research institutes, such as the Institute for Data, Intelligent Systems, and Computation (http://idisc.lehigh.edu/) and the Institute for Cyber Physical Infrastructure and Energy (https://icpie.lehigh.edu/).

The Department offers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science. All of our B.S. programs are fully accredited, including the unique B.S. in Computer Science and Business program, which is accredited both in computer science and in business. Our undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. programs are vibrant and growing, supporting over 560 undergraduates and over 70 graduate students.

Founded in 1865, Lehigh University has combined outstanding academic and learning opportunities with leadership in fostering innovative research. Recognized among the nation's highly ranked research universities, Lehigh offers a rigorous academic community for over 7,000 students and about 560 full-time faculty members. Lehigh University is located in Bethlehem, PA., a vibrant and historic area. Over 860,000 people live in the Lehigh Valley, which is in close proximity to New York City and Philadelphia.

For full consideration, application materials should be received online by December 1, 2023. Candidates applying for a *tenure track position* must submit application materials online. Applications should provide a cover letter; a full CV; a Research Statement that describes past scholarly contributions and future research directions; a Teaching Statement that describes instructional philosophy and courses that the candidate would want to teach or develop; a DEI Statement that describes prior DEI experience and the candidate’s vision for enhancing community and culture at Lehigh; and contact information for at least three references. For more information on the review of DEI materials, applicants may consult the relevant applicant guide (https://advance.cc.lehigh.edu/sites/advance.cc.lehigh.edu/files/Applicant-Facing%20Contributions%20.pdf).
