The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, invites applications for an open rank Professor of the Practice (PoP) position in the areas of Software, Computer Architecture, or Machine Learning.

The ideal candidate will have commitment, passion, and excellence in teaching in a collegial, collaborative community. Candidates should be eager to educate a broad and diverse group of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and passionate about working to increase the participation and success of students from groups underrepresented in computer engineering and science. An ideal candidate would be enthusiastic about teaching a breadth of courses in at least one of the following areas: Software, such as Software Engineering, Introductory Programming, Algorithms, Automata Theory, Networking, Operating Systems, or Databases Computer Architecture, such as Computer Organization, or Digital Logic Machine Learning: Advanced Deep Learning Architecture, Transformers, Reinforcement Learning, or Python programming for Machine Learning applications

Professors of the Practice are regular rank faculty whose primary focus is the school’s educational mission. Reappointment and promotion are based on teaching excellence as well as complementary scholarship through technical or educational research, external research funding, peer-reviewed conference and journal publications, and/or involvement in engineering education at the national or international level. Such faculty typically teach two courses per semester with teaching assistant support.

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or an appropriate related discipline. The appropriate PoP rank will be determined based on a candidate's expertise and years of relevant experience.
